Hines Ward agrees with Commish
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Hines Ward said Friday that Ben Roethlisbergers suspension was justified. Speaking to the media Ward said, “I think the suspension is justified–it is what it is…Is it disappointing? Yes.”
Ward went on to say that he’s uncertain about the upcoming season with the starting quarterback slated to miss the first 6 games. “I don’t know how the season’s going to go. That’s what is uneasy, the uncertainty.”
Ward went on to say that he thought the Steelers were a playoff caliber team last season, though they failed to qualify. Ward’s comments must echo his personal frustration as he is getting ready to enter his 13th season in the league. And while at the age of 34, shows little sign of slowing down, he knows his playing days are drawing to a close.
Ward in 2009 recorded 95 catches for 1167 yards and tied for the lead in receiving touchdowns for the Steelers with 6. The Steelers figure to depend even more on Ward heading into 2010 with the trade of Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets.
2nd year WR Mike Wallace will now be counted on to assume the duties of Pittsburgh’s #2 receiver.
